The Interviewee – Karla Rivas Finkelstein (Born 1989), I was born in Mexico City, study in the new Israeli school in the ciuidad of mexico , study the career of chef, but I’m currently the executive director of the Zionist executive board of mexico.
In your opinion, what importance, if any, does the existence of a Jewish state have to you personally and to Jewish people in general?
“In my opinion I feel it is very important to have a Jewish state where you always feel at home.“
Do you feel committed in some way to defend the future existence of Israel?
“For me it is very important to maintain the state of Israel for future generations and fight for their future as it is the house where you can always come back.”
Do you affiliate yourself with a specific denomination in Judaism? What is your view regarding the dominance of the Orthodox denomination in Israel religious establishment?
“No, I think you have to have respect for the Orthodox and non-Orthodox people. Everyone decides their way to believe and that I respect.”
Do you feel morally responsible for Israel’s actions (such as its management of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict)?
“I do not, but I think for the conflict to stop has to start with oneself having tolerance for all.“
In your opinion, what is the main thing Israelis fail to understand about the reality of being Jewish outside of Israel?
“The Israelis struggle every day for our state, but we also try to keep the State of Israel day by day, we are all Jews and even were aren’t living there, it is in our heart.“
How would you describe Israel’s policy (formally and in practice) regarding its relationship with the Diaspora?
“I think both the Diaspora and Israel are trying to stay connected.“
In your opinion, does Israel have an obligation to defend and help Jewish communities in need?
“Yes of course.”
Have you ever been to Israel? if you have, can you summarize your impressions from Israel?
“Yes, when I was there it made me feel a feeling that can not be explained it is an incredible country.“
Can you tell us a bit about the Jewish community in your hometown?
“The Jewish Commu of Mexico feel it is one of the communities closer together, as always we are here to support us, many traditions are respected and fastens through education we receive from children and that there are many Jewish schools in Mexico where most children go. We also have the Israeli sports center and lots of activities, events and conferences where we held together, reported as Jewish comunudad. I currently work in the Zionist council mexico and we are always thinking of new events that promote the state of Israel and Judaism.”
