In your opinion, what importance, if any, does the existence of a Jewish state have to you personally and to Jewish people in general?

“Shelter, Asylum, the idea that whatever and wherever happens I have a hope I can always come back.”

Do you feel committed in some way to defend the future existence of Israel?

“I do, but also as an ‘ambassador’ of Jewish/Israeli culture all around the globe, especially in Ukraine.”

Do you affiliate yourself with a specific confessional division in Judaism? What is your view regarding the dominance of the Orthodox division in Israel religious establishment?

“Well in case conservative movement exist in Kiev, I would probably be with them. But because we have mostly only orthodox, I do go to orthodox synagogue, 2-3 times a year. Well, I suppose that probably Israel can be a bit more friendly to other divisions, but in the same time only because of orthodoxy our culture is still alive.”

Do you feel morally responsible for Israel’s actions (such as its management of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict)?

“Yes, And trying to promote and explain my non-Jewish friends all the positions.”

In your opinion, what is the main thing Israelis fail to understand about the reality of being Jewish outside of Israel?

“That the Jewish life is possible outside the state. And that all jews around the world are the ambassadors of the state. And Israel have to give all of them the citizenship without any requirements, just so all of them can have ‘spare airport’ in case of danger.”

How would you describe Israel’s policy (formally and in practice) regarding its relationship with the Diaspora?

“Too quiet. Ukrainian civilians practically know nothing about Israel culture etc.”

In your opinion, does Israel have an obligation to defend and help Jewish communities in need?

“I suppose it does, but not as to become a ‘Second Russia’- invading other states with the pretext of protecting our people.”

Have you ever been to Israel?

“Yes, Israel is a Dream Land, build by hard working people.”

Can you tell us a bit about the Jewish community in your hometown? Is it organized? Are there community activities?

“Very separated. About 50 organization who could not work together. Unfortunately, 2 Jews and 3 synagogues.”
