In your opinion, what importance, if any, does the existence of a Jewish state have to you personally and to Jewish people in general?
“The existence of a strong Israel is vital to Jews the world over.”
Do you feel committed in some way to defend the future existence of Israel?
“Absolutely. Whatever it takes.”
Do you affiliate yourself with a specific denomination in Judaism? What is your view regarding the dominance of the Orthodox denomination in Israel religious establishment?

Do you feel morally responsible for Israel’s actions (such as its management of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict?
“I believe Israel, far and away, is the most moral country in the world.”
In your opinion, what is the main thing Israelis fail to understand about the reality of being Jewish outside of Israel?
“Israelis who have lived abroad or visited extensively understand diaspora Jews well and become more tolerant and open-minded towards practices different from their own.”
How would you describe Israel’s policy (formally and in practice) regarding its relationship with the Diaspora?
“Israel’s relationship with the diaspora is well-intentioned but confused and very inconsistent in execution.”
In your opinion, does Israel have an obligation to defend and help Jewish communities in need?
“Yes. Jews are a peoplehood. We must support and defend each other everywhere.”
Have you ever been to Israel? if you have, can you summarize your impression from the Israeli reality?
“I have been to Israel dozens of times and lived there from 1970 – 1975. Israel is a great country and most – by far – Israelis are great too.”
Can you tell us a bit about the Jewish community in your hometown? Is it organized? Are there any community activities?
“Teaneck, NJ is a leading Modern Orthodox and very pro-Israel community. Most of our kids spend a gap year in Israel. Many go on aliyah.”
Is there a question you feel should be added to the project’s questionnaire?
“I think you should ask specifically about the Rabbanut which most Jewish Americans hold on low regard, irrespective of their personal observance.”
